The Workspace tab in AI.TaxAssist gives you the option of setting labels for the ledger lines. These labels are designed to tag items that have specific tax rules associated. Applying labels to items has significance to the numbers on specific schedules of the final tax computation. A user in the Preparer role has the rights to make label changes to Workspace items.
Here are some of the categories for labelling,
- Medical Expense Related
- Separate Source Income Related
- Others
Let’s look at the categories in more detail.
This section covers labels for Remuneration and Medical Expense labels. You can label your ledger items for remuneration with any of the below,
- Remuneration - Directors Remuneration
- Remuneration - Staff Salaries
- Remuneration – CPF
- Remuneration – Other
Note: You can also add your own breakups for Remuneration. As long as the label starts with 'Remuneration - ', it will be used for applying the medical tax rule.
Each unique remuneration label will get listed individually in the Medical Expense Schedule sheet of the draft tax computation tab with the ledger total amounts for each label. Then the total of all Renumeration labels is computed to get the Total Remuneration
For any ledger lines marked as Medical Expense, the system will compute the total sum of all the lines. This sum is displayed in the Medical Expense Schedule sheet of the draft tax computation tab as Medical Expense.
The system then calculates the Disallowable Medical Expense based on the percentage of total remuneration as shown below,
Computation of disallowable medical expense: | | | |
| | | |
1% | of total remuneration | | 0 |
Total medical expenses | | | 0 |
Amount disallowed | | | 0 |
The Disallowed Medical Expenses is then listed in the tax computation sheet of the draft tax computation tab.
